Who is qualified to inspect fire doors?
NFPA 80 requires a "qualified person" — someone who, by knowledge, training and experience, can evaluate a fire door assembly — but sets no single mandatory certification. DHI's Certified Fire & Egress Door Assembly Inspector (CFDAI) and Intertek's Certified Fire Door Inspector (CFDI) are the two most widely accepted programs; some AHJs also accept documented manufacturer or locksmith training.
How often must fire doors be inspected?
NFPA 80 requires fire door assemblies to be inspected and tested not less than annually, with a written record signed and kept available for the AHJ.
