Pool & Spa Bonding & Grounding Certificate

This certificate documents the equipotential bonding grid and grounding of a pool or spa — the network of bonded conductors, structure, perimeter surfaces and metal fittings that keeps everything at the same electrical potential and prevents a stray voltage gradient in and around the water.

NEC Article 680 (Swimming Pools, Fountains, and Similar Installations), NEC 680.26 (equipotential bonding)Valid: One-off (no expiry)

Frequently asked questions about Pool Bonding

Why does a pool need equipotential bonding, not just grounding?
Bonding ties the pool structure, perimeter surfaces and nearby metal parts together electrically so nobody in or around the water can bridge a voltage difference between two surfaces. Grounding alone (a path back to the source) doesn't address that — NEC 680.26 requires both.
Does a storable (above-ground, collapsible) pool need the full bonding grid?
No. NEC 680 Part VI treats storable pools separately — GFCI protection of the associated equipment is the primary requirement, not the full 680.26 equipotential bonding grid required for permanent pools and spas.
