In every room containing a fixed combustion appliance (gas boiler, gas fire, wood burner, oil boiler, etc.) — excluding gas cookers. The alarm must be ceiling-mounted or at head height on a wall.
Is a CO alarm the same as a smoke alarm?
No. A smoke alarm detects smoke particles from fires. A CO alarm detects carbon monoxide gas, which is invisible and odourless. You need both in a rental property — they serve completely different purposes.
