Building Regulations Part L requires a new boiler to be commissioned, and the Benchmark checklist is the industry’s standard record of it. Without it, the boiler manufacturer may refuse a warranty claim. Complete it on the Benchmark paper form or in the Benchmark app; this record does not replace it.
What is the difference between a Benchmark and a CP12?
A Benchmark commissioning record is issued once when a new boiler is installed. A CP12 (Gas Safety Record) is an annual safety check of all gas appliances at a property. They serve different purposes: Benchmark proves correct installation, CP12 proves ongoing safety.
Can a homeowner complete the Benchmark themselves?
No. The Benchmark must be completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer who installed or commissioned the boiler. The engineer records pressure, combustion, and flue readings that require specialist instruments.
