Frequently asked questions about VGB Compliance

What does the VGB Act require?
All public pool and spa drain covers must meet the ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 standard (the successor to ASME A112.19.8), and a single blockable main drain must be protected by a secondary anti-entrapment system such as an SVRS, suction-limiting vent, gravity drainage, automatic pump shut-off, or by disabling the drain.
How do I know if a drain cover is compliant?
Compliant covers are marked with the standard. Covers manufactured on or after 24 May 2021 are marked VGBA-2017 and labelled blockable or unblockable. Covers also have a manufacturer-stated life and must be replaced by that date — the report records it for each cover.
