Frequently asked questions about Asbestos Reoccupation Cert

Who issues the Certificate of Reoccupation?
An independent analyst, someone who is NOT employed by the asbestos removal contractor. This ensures impartiality. The analyst must hold UKAS accreditation for asbestos air testing.
What are the 4 stages of clearance?
HSG248 sets them out. Stage 1: a preliminary check of the site and that the job is complete. Stage 2: a thorough visual inspection inside the enclosure, airlock and baglock. Stage 3: air monitoring inside the enclosure while surfaces are disturbed, with every sample below 0.010 f/ml. Stage 4: a final visual check of the area after the enclosure is taken down, including waste and transit routes.
