Frequently asked questions about Biomass Service

How often should a biomass boiler be serviced?

Biomass boilers should be serviced annually by a HETAS-approved engineer. RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) recipients must maintain annual service records. Some high-use commercial systems may need more frequent servicing.

Do biomass boilers need Clean Air Act compliance?

Yes. In Smoke Control Areas, biomass boilers must be DEFRA-exempt or use authorised fuel. The Ecodesign Regulations 2020 also set minimum efficiency and emissions standards for new biomass boilers.
