Geyser Installation Record (supports PIRB CoC)

The Geyser Installation Record is the plumber’s own record of an electric, solar, or heat pump water heater installation, replacement, or repair. It records the SANS 10254 safety components: drip tray, temperature & pressure relief valve, vacuum breakers, and isolation valve. Since 24 June 2022, SANS 10254 itself no longer mandates a CoC nationally, but several municipalities (notably the City of Cape Town), insurers, and property developers still require one. Where one is required it is the PIRB Certificate of Compliance: a uniquely numbered form that only a PIRB licensed plumber can issue, logged with PIRB. CertBox produces the supporting installation record, not the PIRB CoC. Where an electrical CoC is required for the geyser circuit it must be issued separately by a registered person on the prescribed Annexure 1 form.

Frequently asked questions about Geyser Installation Record

Is a plumbing CoC legally required for a geyser in South Africa?
Not nationally. SANS 10254 stopped mandating a CoC for geyser installation, replacement, or repair on 24 June 2022. Some municipalities still require one by their own by-laws (the City of Cape Town is the main example), and many insurers and property developers ask for one regardless of what SANS 10254 says.
Who can issue a plumbing Certificate of Compliance for a geyser?
Only a PIRB licensed plumber, on PIRB's own uniquely numbered CoC form, which is then logged with PIRB. Some municipalities, such as Cape Town, additionally require the plumber to hold a separate city registration to issue a CoC valid there.
What safety components does the record cover?
The core SANS 10254 components: a drip tray with an overflow pipe draining to the exterior, a temperature & pressure relief valve piped to the exterior, vacuum breakers on both the hot and cold supply lines, and an isolation valve.
