Where must CO alarms be installed?
In England, in every room used as living accommodation that contains a fixed combustion appliance (gas boiler, gas fire, wood burner, oil boiler, etc.), excluding gas cookers. In Wales, in each room with a gas, oil-fired or solid fuel appliance, gas cookers included. In Scotland, in every room with a fixed combustion appliance or a flue, other than an appliance used only for cooking. The alarm must be ceiling-mounted or at head height on a wall.
Is a CO alarm the same as a smoke alarm?
No. A smoke alarm detects smoke particles from fires. A CO alarm detects carbon monoxide gas, which is invisible and odourless. You need both in a rental property. They serve completely different purposes.
