F-Gas Installation & Commissioning Certificate

An F-Gas Installation & Commissioning Certificate confirms that a refrigeration or air conditioning system containing fluorinated greenhouse gases has been installed and commissioned by a qualified F-Gas certified engineer. It records the refrigerant type, charge quantity, leak testing, and commissioning data as required by the F-Gas Regulation.

Assimilated Regulation (EU) No 517/2014 (Great Britain), BS EN 378, F-Gas (Amendment) RegulationsValid: One-off. Leak checks then follow at an interval set by charge: 12 months at 5–50 tCO2e, 6 months at 50–500, 3 months at 500+ (doubled where a leakage detection system is fitted)

Frequently asked questions about F-Gas Cert

What is the F-Gas Regulation?
The F-Gas Regulation controls the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (HFCs, PFCs, SF6) to reduce climate impact. It requires that only certified engineers install and maintain systems containing F-Gases, and mandates regular leak checks for larger systems.
Do all AC systems need F-Gas certificates?
Any system containing fluorinated refrigerants (R410A, R32, R134a, etc.) requires F-Gas documentation. Systems containing 5 tonnes CO2 equivalent or more must have leak checks: at least every 12 months at 5 to 50 tonnes, and more often above that. All installations must be recorded in an F-Gas log book.
