Frequently asked questions about solar & renewables symbols

What is an NC6 and when is it needed?
The NC6 is the notification form submitted to ESB Networks for a microgeneration connection. It is sent before the system is connected to the grid, and for domestic installations the registered installer normally submits it. Larger installations use the NC7 route instead.
Which certificate does the electrical work need?
The electrical installation is certified by a Registered Electrical Contractor through Safe Electric, the same route as any other Irish electrical work. That certificate sits alongside the I.S. EN 62446-1 inspection, testing and commissioning report for the PV system itself.
Are Irish solar symbols different from UK ones?
No. Arrays, strings, inverters, isolators, batteries and EV chargers are drawn the same way, because both countries take the symbols from the same international electrical set. The difference is entirely in the standards named and the connection paperwork behind the drawing.
Does the SEAI grant change what has to be drawn?
It changes who may do the work rather than what the drawing shows. Domestic grant-supported installations must be carried out by an installer registered with SEAI and working to its code of practice for domestic solar PV, and the documentation that code expects is the same commissioning evidence I.S. EN 62446-1 describes.
